How to Add Music to a Canva Website
Want to add music to your Canva website? In this tutorial, I’ll show you how to add your own music using a video file, or add a song using a YouTube embed.
You can use these methods for wedding websites, digital invitations, party websites and other events. Add your first dance song, a track that reminds you of your engagement, or something that sets the mood for your celebration.
You can also position the player over a record graphic or custom music section so it fits your website design.
Can You Add Music to a Canva Website?
Yes and no! You can have music on your Canva website, but you can’t just upload an audio file, like an MP3, and have it play.
Instead, you’ll need to upload a video with the music already in it, or use an embed from a platform like YouTube or Spotify.
I’ll show you both options below, including how to fit the player into your website design.
Guests can then click to play when they open your website. I wouldn’t rely on the music starting automatically, as this can work differently depending on their phone or browser.

Follow along with the video, or use the steps below. If you’re editing one of my templates, go straight to the music section in your Canva design.
Method 1: How to Add Your Own Music to a Canva Website
This method uses a video with sound. You can use the video already included in your template, choose a suitable video from Canva’s library, or upload your own.
If you’re uploading a file, use a video containing music you have permission to use. The picture in the video doesn’t need to match your website because you can hide it once it’s in position.
1. Open Your Canva Website
Open your website design and go to the section where you want guests to play the music.
If your template already has a record graphic or music section, use that area but delete the video already there.
2. Add Your Video
To upload your own video, click Uploads, then Upload files. Choose your video file and wait for it to upload.
Click the uploaded video to add it to your website page.
You can also use an existing video in your template or choose one from Canva’s video library. Play it first to check that it contains the sound you want.
3. Check the Sound
Select the video and check that its volume is turned up and it isn’t muted.
Play it to make sure you’ve added the correct file and can hear the music. Sometimes it may not play in preview mode, checking when published is best.
4. Resize and Position the Video
Make the video smaller and move it over the play area of your music graphic.
For example, if you’re using a record-style design, position the video so its play control lines up with the place you want guests to click.
Keep the clickable area large enough to tap comfortably on a phone.
5. Hide the Video Picture
Select the video and open Transparency in the toolbar. Set it to 0%, as shown in the tutorial, to hide the video picture over your design.
Add a short instruction such as “Click to play our song” so guests know what to do.
Check the playback control on the published website. If the player doesn’t respond at 0%, try 1%, republish and test again.
6. Publish and Test
Publish your website, then open the live website link in a browser.
Click the music area and check that the sound plays. Test it on your phone too, and check that guests can pause it after starting playback.
If the play control doesn’t line up with your graphic, return to Canva, adjust the video’s position and publish your changes.

Method 2: How to Add YouTube Music to a Canva Website
This method lets you add a song through a YouTube video without uploading the music yourself. Use the artist’s or music provider’s official upload where available.
Keep the YouTube embed larger than the small uploaded video used in the first method. Shrinking it down to a tiny play button can cause problems, especially on mobile.
This meathod will work for embedding from any software like spotify, ect.
1. Copy Your YouTube Link
Open the YouTube video you want to use. Click Share, then Copy to copy its link.
Check that you’ve chosen the right song and version before adding it to your website.
2. Open Canva’s Embed App
Return to your Canva website design.
Click Apps in the left-hand menu and search for Embed. Open the app.
3. Add the YouTube Video
Paste your YouTube link into the Embed app and add it to your design.
If you’re changing the song in a template, remove the sample embed once your new one is added so you don’t leave two players overlapping.
4. Size and Position the Embed
Keep the video in a wide, rectangular shape. In this example, use around 800 × 450 in the Canva design as a starting point, then check how it behaves on your published website.
Position it so the YouTube play area lines up with your music section. Keep it visible while you’re arranging it so you can see where the player sits.
5. Check the Layers
Open Position, then Layers, to see which elements sit above and below the embed.
The play area needs to remain clickable. Also check that the larger embed isn’t sitting on top of your RSVP button, venue links or other clickable elements.
Move those buttons and links above the embed where needed, or reposition the music section so they don’t overlap.
6. Adjust the Transparency
For the hidden-player effect shown in the tutorial, select the embed and set Transparency to 0%.
Keep a visible music graphic and a short “Click to play” instruction in the design so guests know where to tap.
If playback doesn’t respond at 0%, try 1%, republish and test again. If the hidden effect doesn’t work reliably with your chosen video, leave the player visible so guests can use its controls.
7. Test the Published Website
Publish your changes and open the live website link.
Test the music on both desktop and mobile. Check that it starts, that you can pause it, and that your other buttons still work.
If the video won’t play, test the YouTube link itself and try another official upload if necessary. Some videos aren’t available for playback on other websites.

Can Music Autoplay on a Canva Website?
Don’t rely on music playing automatically when someone opens your website. Autoplay with sound can be blocked by the visitor’s browser or phone, even when an autoplay setting is available.
Use a clear “Click to play our song” instruction and let guests start the music themselves.
What to Check Before Sharing Your Website
Always test the published website, not just the Canva editor preview.
- Open your live website link on desktop and mobile.
- Tap the music area and check that the correct song plays.
- Check that you can pause the music.
- Make sure the play area lines up with your design and is easy to tap.
- Test your RSVP button and any links near the music section.
- Republish after making changes and check the live link again.
Wedding Website Music Ideas
Your first dance song is an easy choice, but you could also use your ceremony entrance song, a track from your proposal, or a song that reminds you of a favourite trip together.
Keep the wording beside your music section simple. “Play our song”, “Listen to our first dance” or “A little preview of our wedding day” tells guests what they’re about to hear.
FAQs About Adding Music to a Canva Website
Can I Upload an MP3 to My Canva Website?
For the uploaded-video method in this tutorial, you need a video file containing your music, such as an MP4. Uploading an audio-only MP3 doesn’t give you the video player used in these steps.
Does the Video Have to Stay Visible?
The tutorial shows how to hide the video picture using transparency and position it over a custom music graphic. Test this on your published website to make sure playback and pause controls still work for guests.
Why Isn’t My Music Playing on Mobile?
Check the video’s volume, the position of the clickable area and whether another element is covering it. For YouTube, keep the embed large enough to work as a player. If you’ve hidden the player at 0% transparency, try 1%, republish and test again.
Can I Use This for Other Event Websites?
Yes. You can follow the same steps for birthday invitations, bridal showers, engagement parties and other Canva event websites.
