How to Add Google Maps to a Canva Website

Adding a Google Map to your Canva website is really simple. And if you’re creating a wedding website or digital invitation, it’s a handy way to show guests exactly where they’re going. They can interact with the map on your website.

But you don’t have to stop at the venue map. You can also add a parking link and a saved list of nearby hotels, so guests have the useful bits ready when they need them.

I’ll walk you through the map first, then show you how to add those extras. You can use as much or as little of this as you need for your event.

Already Have a Map in Your Template?

If you’re using one of my templates, or another template with a Google Map already added, you don’t need to start again. Just click the map, choose Edit link, and replace the existing link with the Google Maps link for your own venue.

If there’s a separate Google Maps button, remember to update that link too.

If you’re creating your website from scratch, follow the steps below to add a new map.

How to Add a Google Map to Your Canva Website

1. Open Your Website Design

Open your Canva website and go to your venue or location section.

Add your venue name and full address as text if they aren’t there already. I’d keep these visible above the map so guests can find the address at a glance.

2. Open the Google Maps App

Click Apps in the left-hand menu and search for Google Maps. Open the Google Maps app by Canva, which lets you embed a map in your design. Google Maps app in Canva

3. Find Your Venue

Search for your venue by name or address in the app, then choose the correct location.

Check the address carefully before adding it. Some venues have similar names, and a hotel chain may have more than one location in the same city.

Add the map to your design once you have the right place.

4. Resize and Position Your Map

Drag the map into your venue section and use the corner handles to resize it.

Leave enough room for the map to be useful on a phone, with a little space between it and any text or buttons.

If you’re working from a template, check that you’ve replaced the sample venue and address everywhere they appear, including any existing map button.

5. Check the Published Website

Preview your design, then publish it and open the live website link.

Check that the correct location appears and that the map fits neatly on desktop and mobile. Once you’ve added the links below, test those from the published website too.

How to Add a Google Maps Button for Your Venue

I like having a clearly labelled button alongside the map. It gives guests an obvious place to tap when they’re ready to open the location in Google Maps.

1. Copy Your Venue’s Google Maps Link

Open Google Maps in another tab and find your venue. Open its place details, choose Share, then copy the link. If you’re sharing the map view instead, use Menu → Share or embed map → Send a link. Google’s map-sharing instructions

For this button, copy the place link so guests can choose directions from wherever they’re travelling. You don’t need to share a route starting at your own home.

2. Add the Link to Your Canva Button

Back in Canva, select the text or element you want guests to click. Open Link from the toolbar, or look under the three dots if it isn’t visible. Paste your link and press Enter to apply it. How to add links in Canva

Label it Open in Google Maps so guests know what it does. When the location opens, they can choose Directions and their own starting point.

If your button uses separate text and a background shape, apply the same link to both so guests can tap either part.

How to Share Parking Options on Your Canva Wedding Website

If your venue doesn’t have its own parking, you can save a few nearby car parks to a Google Maps list and share it through one button on your website.

You can also add notes to each car park, so guests can compare prices, check opening times and choose the best option for them.

1. Create Your Parking List

Open Google Maps and search for the first car park you want to include.

Click Save, then New list. Give it a name such as Parking Near Our Wedding, then click Create.

Find your other parking options and save each one to the same list.

2. Add a Description and Notes

Open your saved list and add a short description explaining what it includes, such as “Nearby parking options for our wedding venue.”

Then add a note to each car park with anything useful guests should know. You could mention which is cheapest, how far it is from the venue, whether it needs booking, or if there’s a closing time or maximum stay.

For example:

“Usually the cheapest option for a full day. Around a ten-minute walk from the venue.”

Or:

“Closest to the venue, but closes at 11pm, so you’ll need to collect your car before then.”

Check prices and restrictions with the car park operator before adding your notes. If you include a price, mention when you checked it, as charges can change.

This keeps the helpful details alongside each parking option, ready for guests to compare.

3. Share Your Parking List

Go to Saved in Google Maps and find your list.

Click the three dots beside it, then Send a link to view. Make sure the list is shared so guests can open it using your link.

Copy the viewing link rather than an invitation to edit.

4. Add the Link to Your Canva Website

Add a button labelled View Parking Options, or duplicate a button already in your design.

Select it, open Link, and paste your parking-list link. If you’ve duplicated a button, remember to replace its original link.

Guests can now tap the button to see your parking options and read your notes in Google Maps.

If there’s only one car park guests should use, you can still create a list with that location and its helpful details.

How to Create a Shared Google Maps List of Hotels

If you have guests travelling for the wedding, you can collect your hotel suggestions in one Google Maps list and link to it from your website.

You can also add notes to each hotel, so guests know which is closest, where you’re staying or whether there’s a wedding discount available.

1. Save Your Hotel Choices

Open Google Maps, sign in and search for your first hotel.

Click Save, then New list. Give it a name such as Hotels Near Our Wedding, then click Create.

Find your other hotel suggestions and save each one to the same list.

2. Add a Description and Hotel Notes

Open your saved list and add a short description, such as “A few places to stay near our wedding venue, with options for different budgets.”

Then add a note to each hotel explaining why you’ve included it. You could mention walking distance, parking, family rooms, a shuttle pickup or any agreed wedding rate.

For example:

“This is where we’re staying, and where the wedding shuttle will collect guests.”

Or:

“A more affordable option, around a ten-minute taxi ride from the venue.”

If you’ve arranged a wedding discount or reserved rooms, include the booking instructions, code and deadline in that hotel’s note. Check these details with the hotel before sharing them.

Hotel prices vary by date, so check your wedding dates before describing somewhere as a budget option.

3. Copy the List’s Viewing Link

Go to Saved in Google Maps and find your hotel list.

Click the three dots beside it, then Send a link to view. Make sure the list is shared so guests can open it using your link.

Copy the viewing link rather than an invitation to edit.

4. Link It From Your Canva Website

Add a button labelled View Nearby Hotels, or duplicate an existing button and change its wording.

Select it, open Link, and paste your hotel-list link. Remember to replace the original link if you’ve duplicated a button.

Guests can then open your list, see where the hotels are and read your notes alongside each option—all from one button on your website.

A Simple Layout for Your Venue Section

You don’t need a separate map for every useful location. I’d keep your main venue map, then add the links that make sense for your event.

ButtonWhat to link to
Open in Google MapsYour venue’s Google Maps location
Find ParkingThe recommended car park or parking entrance
View Nearby HotelsYour shared hotel list

If your ceremony and reception are at different venues, label the locations clearly and give each its own map link. You can add the venue’s own website as a separate link if guests need more information.

For a wedding weekend, you could also use this approach for a welcome-drinks venue or the next morning’s brunch. Only add what your guests actually need.

Test Your Map and Links Before Sharing

Publish your latest changes, then open the website on your phone.

Tap each button and check that it opens the right place or list. Make sure your parking button opens the parking location, and that none of your duplicated buttons still uses the original venue link.

Open the hotel-list link in a private browser window as well, to check that someone outside your account can view it.

Finally, read through the venue names and addresses on your website. Once those match the map links, your travel section is ready for guests.
